Background:
I am a long-time, twice-retired New Hampshire resident. I opened this business in 2010 to experience the small business world and to keep my hand in engineering-related work. I stay busy, do fine quality work on firearms, make the owners happy and learn something new every day. I only work part-time, but I treat this business seriously. Every firearm I return to its owner is patiently inspected, competently repaired or upgraded and fully tested for safe, reliable function. I have a mentor who is a nationally-known, lifelong gunsmith. He is John Andrewski, who graciously shares his wisdom with me whenever I need it.
Credentials:
I am retired from the US Army. During that 25-year career I served as tank commander, aviator, paratrooper, Military Intelligence unit commander, aviation unit commander, associate professor of computer science at the US Military Academy, and director of software development for the US European Command HQ in Germany. I was there when the Iron Curtain came down, and have a chunk of the wall at home. I am also retired from 20 years in the defense industry, where I used my engineering background and leadership experience to manage groups of engineers and engineering development projects. I ran organizations of up to 800 electrical and mechanical engineers working on projects worth about $4 Billion in annual sales. Had fun. Did good stuff for the Warfighter. Left at just the right time for me. I hold a Professional Gunsmith Certification with Honors from Ashford College, but I really learned the trade from my friend and mentor, John Andrewski.
Business Model: I operate as a Type 1 Home Occupation in Bedford, NH. My business is in my home, and is not open to the public. So, the Gun Doc makes house calls. I will pick up and deliver your gun at your home, work, or any other mutually agreeable location. I have a legal finding from BATF that operating with this "House Call" model is legal as long as I do not cross state lines while collecting or returning firearms.
